A build is the `YYYYMMDD` date of the client version; the `.NN` after it is a same-day
point release and is ignored everywhere, so `20250718.01`, `20250718.2` and `20250718`
are all the beta build and share game sessions.
Alpha builds get past the version check and largely work, but nothing else in the
stack targets them, so expect protocol differences. Other client or game versions
