Adding DataBlob/DataBlobHash at room level for reader parity was wrong, and the
dorm is what proved it: rooms came back "the data in the room you are trying to
load is corrupt", and every room loaded fine before the key existed.
Which blob a room loads is decided per INSTANCE and per SUB-ROOM, not per room.
The matchmake response carries it (a dorm's is per-player,
dorm_p{id}_v*.dat) and each sub-room carries its own. A room-scoped answer to
the same question is one the client preferred, and for a dorm it named a file
that was never written.
A registered slot does not oblige us to fill it: Newtonsoft leaves an absent
key at its default, which is the state every room loaded in. The parity test
records both keys as deliberately omitted with the reason, so restoring them
takes a decision rather than a tidy-up.
Also drops the room-level/sub-room DataBlob invariant test added an hour ago —
there is no room-level DataBlob left for it to check.
Note for the clone bug: the captured response now shows the clone carries all
41 keys the reader registers and the client still rejects it, so key parity is
NOT that failure. It is a value the reader refuses, not a missing name.
Regression from adding the room-level DataBlob key: it was filled from the
per-ROOM name while sub-room 0 resolves its own, override included. A dorm's
data is per-PLAYER (dorm_p{id}_v*.dat) and reaches the builder as that
override, so the room level advertised a room_{id}_* file that was never
written. The client fetched it and rejected the whole room with "the data in
the room you are trying to load is corrupt" — which reads like a broken save
rather than a payload that disagrees with itself.
Both now come from one resolved value, so whichever key the client reads
first it gets the same file. The no-scenes fallback sub-room honours the
override too, instead of falling back to the per-room name.
Adds the invariant as a test: room-level DataBlob == SubRooms[0].DataBlob.
The DTO parity tests could not have caught this — the key was present and
correctly named, it just pointed somewhere else.
Player caps were two settings pretending to be one. RoomEntity.MaxCapacity is
what the ROOM advertises (and what matchmaking hands to
RoomInstance.MaxCapacity); RoomSceneEntity.MaxPlayers is what ONE sub-room caps
itself at. The details payload was reading its room-level MaxPlayers off
sub-room 0, which collapsed the two — editing a sub-room would have moved the
room's advertised capacity with it. It now reports MaxCapacity, and each entry
in SubRooms[] reports its own figure.
The in-game path already existed (the "Max Player Count in This Subroom"
slider). Admin had no way to reach it at all — only zip import ever set it — so
a cap could not be corrected on a room the admin does not own:
GET api/admin/v1/rooms/{id}/subrooms
PUT api/admin/v1/rooms/{id}/subrooms/{subRoomId}/maxplayers {"MaxPlayers":n}
subRoomId is the sub-room's ORDER INDEX — the id the client and the rest of the
wire use — not the row's primary key. Row ids are serialised as strings because
the admin SPA is JavaScript and mangles integers past 2^53. Both paths clamp to
1..80, matching rooms/{id}/props: 0 would make a sub-room unjoinable, and a
shared range stops the two settings disagreeing about what is legal.
The test drives the client's exact wire rather than a convenient one:
NLDBPDCNNCF.MNBPCGJNLNP builds a BLNOGFGHIIF whose single JSON key is
"maxPlayers" and PUTs it — this route does NOT form-encode like most of its
siblings, so a form-bodied test would have passed while the real client's body
went unread. It also asserts the reply carries the new value, since the client
deserialises it back as FGCPNAACHIK.
Both bugs were the same shape: we answered HTTP 200 with a key set the client's
generated reader did not agree with, the reader threw mid-deserialise, and it
surfaced later as a bare "Failed to copy room" / a chat that never opened, with
no URL in the client log and no payload in the server log.
Rather than guess at fields, tools/extract-client-dto-keys.py reads the readers
out of the ISIL dump. Cpp2IL emits each generated reader's property names as
string literals in registration order (three spellings per field: Pascal,
camel, lower), so the extracted catalogue is the client's own contract. 156
reader types land in DorkNet.Server.Tests/data/client-dto-keys-2023.json, and
ClientDtoParityTests asserts our real responses against them — nothing missing,
nothing extra.
Chat (EKEFFNBIOHJ) was missing exactly one key: LatestMessage. It was only
emitted when a thread HAD messages, so it vanished from the one response where
it was needed — the thread that thread/withmembers has just created, which by
definition has none. It is now always present, null when there is nothing to
report; a registered slot wants a value and an absent key is not one.
Room details (GLEGPFFPDBE) was missing DataBlob, DataBlobHash, MaxPlayers,
ToxmodEnabled and RankingContext, and sent 15 keys the reader has no slot for.
The 15 are gone: UgcVersion, UgcSubVersion, MinUgcSubVersion, PublishState,
PublishStateAvailability, BoostCount, ExcludeFromLists, IsJuniorCreated,
IsRecRoomApproved, IsRoomLinkedToRecRoomStudio, IsStudioRoom, StudioSessionId,
RestrictedCircuitsAllowListNames, AllowNewUsers, AllowsNewUsers.
That deletion also removes a comment asserting the 2023 client reads UgcVersion
to build its asset-bundle URL. It does not — the literal appears nowhere in the
entire decompile, and neither do PublishState or BoostCount.
When the client rejects a response it still answers HTTP 200 and throws while
reading it, so the server log shows a clean 200, the client shows a bare
"Failed to copy room" / an unopened chat with no URL, and neither side records
the payload. Every diagnosis then comes down to guessing which key the strict
reader tripped on.
Success bodies are now logged for /player, /thread and /clone, and the response
cap is raised to 8000 chars for those paths — a room-details payload is a few
KB and a 300-char truncation answers nothing. Everything else is unchanged:
failures are still always read, successes still discarded, bodies still pass
through RedactSecrets.
Override with the Trace__SuccessBodyPaths env var (comma-separated substrings,
empty to disable).
Cloning was a shallow copy: the new room's scenes kept pointing at the SOURCE
room's blob until someone saved over them. So every clone of a room shared one
object, a clone read as "already has content" while owning none of it, and the
room a player copied stayed load-bearing for their copy indefinitely. Cloning
RecCenter produced rooms whose data blob was literally room_100_v1.dat, which
is visible in the join log.
Each sub-room's bytes are now copied into the clone's own namespace, keyed by
the CLONE's room id so BlobRouter files them under that room's prefix. Sub-room
0 takes the canonical default name, which matters because the details builder
falls back to exactly that name when a room has no recorded blob — writing the
copy there means both the recorded and the fallback path resolve to real
content. Each copy also gets a RoomDataBlobs row so it is tracked like any
other save.
Two cases deliberately do not clear a reference:
- With no object store configured there is nothing to copy, and a blob name is
only a reference; clearing it would throw away the player's edits, which is
strictly worse than the shared reference. That path keeps the old shallow
behaviour, which is also what the existing user-room clone test asserts.
- A source object that is missing or unreadable leaves the clone empty rather
than failing the request. The room and its sub-rooms are already committed by
that point, so a hard failure would strand a half-made room, and an unsaved
source clones to an empty room anyway.
Everywhere else a reference is either replaced by a real copy or cleared — it
is never left pointing into another room.
Adds SchemaBootstrapParityTests, which closes the hole that let the
missing-column outage ship green. Every other test runs against a FRESH
database where EnsureCreated builds the whole model from the entities, so a
column that only exists in the model always appears — the failure mode is
invisible by construction. These two tests model an EXISTING database instead:
- Every model table/column must be reachable via a committed migration OR an
idempotent Ensure* patch. Something covered by neither reaches only brand-new
databases, and every query touching it throws on a deployed server.
- Anything added after the Initial migration must additionally appear as a
Postgres ALTER/CREATE in DatabaseBootstrap, because that path is
EnsureCreated-only and never replays migrations. This is precisely the rule
PrivateInstances.RoomCode, Clubs.ClubChatEnabled and
ChatMessages.ModerationState broke.
The first test asserts the union rather than migrations alone: a large amount of
schema legitimately predates the rule and lives only in the helpers. Tightening
that is separate cleanup; what must never happen is a column covered by nothing.
The helper-coverage parser reads the Ensure* SQL out of the source rather than
executing the private methods, and handles both C# string styles the file mixes
plus the loops that interpolate a column name (EnsureGameRewardColumnsAsync).
Also fixes a real data bug found in review: the Client2023WireFixes migration
backfilled SupportsJuniors/SupportsScreens/SupportsTeleportVR/SupportsWalkVR to
false for existing rows, while the entity default is true. A C# property
initializer is not a database default, so EF emitted false and every playlist
predating the migration would have been silently marked as not supporting
juniors, screens or either VR movement mode — the opposite of intent, and
inconsistent with the bootstrap helper, which already used true.
Adding entity columns and an EF migration was not enough, and the gap took
down a live dev server: club home, matchmake/dorm, the presence heartbeat and
the chat thread list all returned 500 with "column does not exist".
The Postgres path is EnsureCreated-only and never replays migrations, so an EF
migration adds nothing to a database that already exists. Every post-Initial
column has to be repeated as an idempotent ALTER in DatabaseBootstrap — that is
what the existing Ensure*Columns helpers are for — and the columns added by the
2023 wire work had no such helper.
Observed failures, all from a running deployment:
- PrivateInstances.RoomCode -> PrivateInstanceService.EnsureForDormAsync,
which is on the path of BOTH matchmake/dorm and player/heartbeat. This is
why the client could not load into the dorm at all.
- Clubs.ClubChatEnabled / MinLevel -> ClubService.HomeClubAsync, so
GET club/home/me 500'd on every boot.
- ChatMessages.ModerationState -> ChatController.GetThreads, so the chat
inbox 500'd.
EnsureClient2023WireColumnsAsync covers all of them plus the playlist settings
columns and the two new club tables, for Postgres and SQLite, and runs after
the provider branch so both get it. Every statement is idempotent, so it is a
no-op on a fresh database that EnsureCreated already built correctly.
The test suite did not catch this because tests always run against a fresh
database, where EnsureCreated builds the full model from the entities. Only an
EXISTING database can be missing these columns.
Every HTTP request the 2023-03-21 client can issue now reaches a handler under
the verb it actually uses: 522/522, with an empty KnownGaps allowlist. The
coverage test asserts it, so a regression fails the build rather than becoming
a 404 in the wild.
The six routes left after the previous pass all needed storage that did not
exist, so they are done here as one schema change rather than stubbed:
- ClubRolePermissionEntity (ClubId, MembershipType, six bools) backs
PUT club/{id}/permissions/{role}. A club with no stored row falls back to the
derived default policy, so every club that predates the table behaves exactly
as before. Partial writes keep the values they currently resolve to, so a
client that omits a field cannot silently revoke a permission.
- ClubAdditionalImageEntity (ClubId, Slot, ImageName) backs the gallery. The
details envelope now emits real {ImageName, Slot} rows instead of an empty
array, and DELETE clears a slot.
- ClubEntity.MinLevel and ClubEntity.ClubChatEnabled back their setters and are
read back by hasDisabledClubChat and the Club wire shape, which previously
reported hardcoded defaults.
- ChatMessageEntity.ModerationState backs PUT thread/message/{id}/moderate,
gated so an author can retract their own message but only club moderators and
admins can action anyone else's.
- TestCaseEntity.CommentsJson backs the QA comment endpoint, appending rather
than overwriting so a second tester's note cannot erase the first.
Also corrects the Joinability comment on ClubEntity, which documented
1=RequestToJoin / 2=InviteOnly. The real enum is Open=0, InviteOnly=1,
AskToJoin=2 — the inverted reading the requesttojoin handler was already fixed
away from, left behind where it could mislead the next change.
Sixteen agents, one controller each, over every route the coverage test
reported as missing or wrong-verb. Route+verb coverage is now 516/522 (98.9%),
up from 90.8%.
Each handler was written against binary evidence rather than the audit's prose:
verb from the BestHTTP.HTTPMethods ordinal at the call site, response shape from
the issuing method's return type, request shape from whether the client uses
form fields, a raw JsonUtility body, or query params. Agents were told to skip
rather than stub, and several did.
New surface worth noting:
- Link host: actionlink create/get/consume and datalink get/put, previously
unrouted entirely.
- Club roster reads: members, banned, requests, requests/search, members/search,
each with the client's real sort/paging params and the wire row shape its
reader expects (the banned row has no MembershipType field, so it isn't sent).
- Home clubhouse set/clear, club disband (soft, via the existing State column),
and DELETE mainimage as its own action rather than a verb alias — the client
parses the details envelope from it, so it is not status-only.
- Club chat threads, comment CRUD, keepsake collect/delete, progression-event
xp boosts, image report and cheered/bulk, iOS StoreKit product reporting.
The six routes still missing all need storage that does not exist yet
(per-role club permissions, club additional-image slots, MinLevel,
ClubChatEnabled). Those are left for a single schema change rather than faked.
Also excludes DELETE /account/me from the endpoint contract probe. That route is
now a real, correctly-guarded account purge, and the probe walks every route
with one test player — so calling it destroyed the probe's own session and
turned one real event into 49 cascading foreign-key and 401 failures.
Fourteen agents worked one server file each over the audit's open findings,
re-verifying every claim against the client binary before changing anything.
Route+verb coverage against the recovered client inventory is now 474/522
(90.8%), up from 86.2% when the harness was first wired up.
Adds ClientRouteCoverageTests, which turns "are we compliant?" into a number
instead of an opinion. It reads data/client-routes-2023.tsv — every request the
2023-03-21 client can issue, recovered from the binary — and asserts each one
has a handler under the verb the client actually uses, separating "no handler"
from "handler exists, wrong verb" since those have different fixes. Remaining
gaps live in KnownGaps, which is expected to shrink and never grow.
Also fixes a real blind spot in EndpointContractDiscovery: it only collected
HttpMethodAttribute, so an action carrying a bare [Route] with no verb attribute
was invisible to it. The CDN's unity_assets handler is exactly that shape, which
had been showing up as a phantom gap.
Notable findings from this pass:
- The club permissions envelope key is literally "Type", not "MembershipType"
as the audit's suggested fix guessed. Read off the generated reader, then
cross-checked against the 2020 decompile — the int bitmask we were emitting
was wrong for BOTH client generations, not just 2023.
- Room-consumable purchase responses carry OperationResult as an OBJECT
{ Status, InventoryItem }; the scalar operation enum belongs in
BalanceUpdateResult. The base type OKHNOPLBOFP holds a single BGHBAILNNJJ,
which exposes exactly those two properties. A test asserting the old scalar
shape was corrected rather than the code.
- buyProgressionEventXpBoost blind-inserted an ObjectiveProgress row whose
(PlayerId, Key) is unique, so a second purchase of the same boost threw
"UNIQUE constraint failed" and 500'd AFTER taking the player's currency.
Now an upsert.
Agents were forbidden from faking fixes they could not complete in their own
file, and several correctly refused: club role permissions, club additional
image slots, announcement meta, MinLevel/ClubChatEnabled, currency purchase
offer ordering, and room-key image/currency columns all need new entities or
columns. Those are deliberately left for a single coherent schema change rather
than stubbed out here.

- Updated MagicDoor endpoint to return a structured response including refresh timing.
- Improved reporting functionality to handle form submissions correctly, ensuring room reports are persisted.

- Enhanced logging for room code management to track player actions and conflicts.
OnDisconnectedAsync told friends a player went offline, but nothing ever
pushed the opposite transition — PlayerCameOnline existed in
NotificationService with zero callers. The pair was asymmetric, so a SignalR
reconnect (network blip, replica restart) greyed the player out on every
friend's list for the rest of the session even though they were still
playing. Only re-entering a room, which pushes presence via /goto, brought
them back.
AddConnectionAsync already computed the first-connection transition to
maintain the online set but returned void; it now reports it, mirroring
RemoveConnectionAsync.
The push is deliberately conditional on a room already being known. The
presence payload derives isOnline from roomInstance being non-null, so
pushing with no room reads as OFFLINE — worse than staying quiet. On a fresh
boot there is no room yet and the /goto that follows sends the real presence
anyway, so this only fires on reconnects, where the cached room is exactly
what friends need to see again.
Audits every route the March-2023 client can call against what this server
actually serves, and fixes the defects that were breaking gameplay. Adds
docs/recroom-2023-client-api-complete.md as the reference: ~500 route
literals across 13 subsystems, with verb, request/response shape, and a
per-subsystem diff. 315 defects catalogued; the ones fixed here are listed
in its "Already fixed" table.
Path coverage was never the problem — 465 of 506 routes already had
handlers. The failures were in shape, and they cluster into four causes:
- Wrong verb. The verb is a BestHTTP.HTTPMethods ordinal (GET=0 .. PATCH=5),
confirmed from that enum's static constructor. Routes registered POST-only
while the client PUTs returned 405, which made room consumables neither
buyable nor consumable and blocked every room-key edit.
- Bare scalar wrapped in an object. The client reads `1000`, not
`{"Limit":1000}`; the issuing method signature says which. Wrapping makes
the deserializer throw and the feature dies silently.
- [FromBody] vs form-urlencoded. The client sends nearly every write as form
data, which an [ApiController] action bound [FromBody] rejects with 415
before the handler runs. This alone broke all 13 club member-management
endpoints. Adds Binding/FormOrJsonModelBinder so this is fixed once.
- Notify dispatch keys. Both enum overloads of the client's RegisterHandler
lower the id via Int32.ToString() and register only that numeric key, and
lookup is a case-sensitive TryGetValue that returns silently on a miss. We
were sending the enum NAME for most ids, so friend-request updates, forced
logout, maintenance broadcasts, live balance and consumable updates, and
invention moderation pushes all evaporated with no error anywhere.
Notable behavioural bugs fixed:
- Editing a club announcement deleted it: PUT was a third binding on the
delete handler. Split apart, and the missing create route added.
- leaderboard/CheckAndSetStat did not exist. The 2023 client has no SetStat
literal at all, so every leaderboard score it wrote was discarded.
- Setting a club clubhouse cleared it: the handler read roomId from the query
while the client sends it in the body, then wrote the resulting null.
- Club join requests were inverted (the enum is Open=0, InviteOnly=1,
AskToJoin=2), so ask-to-join clubs rejected everyone and invite-only clubs
quietly admitted them.
- Room bans were pushed as id 24, for which the client registers no handler;
they now go out as ModerationKick with IsBan, so the ban takes effect
immediately instead of at next login.
- Room-key ownership queries answered for the wrong player, and "has anyone
bought this key" asked "did I buy it" — always false for the creator.
Also persists settings that were previously acknowledged and dropped
(playlist accessibility/restrictions/level-voting/warning, per-player status
visibility, VR movement mode and avoid-juniors, custom room codes), which is
what the new columns in the migration are for.
One test asserted the old nested PriceAndCurrency response shape; the
client's consumable formatter has no such key and reads Price and
PurchaseCurrencyId flat, so the test was corrected alongside the handler.

af0d7b6 added RankingContext/DataBlob/MaxPlayers/ToxmodEnabled to the
shared BuildRoomServerDetails (and DataBlobHash/Description to
BuildStudioSaveWire) to try to satisfy the 2023 SaveRoom commit-response
Dispose walk. The invented RankingContext object shape is rejected by
the strict room-details mapper, so GET rooms/{id} (and every room list
that shares the builder) failed with "Malformed Response" -> rooms
broke. The 2023 mappers validate value SHAPES, not just key presence, so
bolting unverified keys onto the shared room DTO is unsafe.
Reverts af0d7b6 code changes. Room saving remains functionally correct
(blob persists, fanout delivers); the SaveRoom success toast is left for
a separately-verified fix.
- Updated `url-coverage.md` to clarify the behavior of the `api/rooms/v2/myRecent` endpoint.
- Enhanced `StoreService.cs` to include new properties for color variants: `combination_id` and `descriptor`.
- Modified logic in `StoreService` to validate color variants based on the new descriptor instead of swatch GUID.
- Updated database bootstrap scripts to create new tables for `RoomConsumables` and `RoomConsumableOwnership`, including necessary indexes.
- Revised README to reflect changes in debugging options and the introduction of `DorkNet.DebugMod`.
- Updated documentation on request expectations to clarify server-side behavior for room visibility.
- Enhanced installation script to provide clearer instructions for enabling the debug console.
- Added a new document detailing the process for dumping avatar items and color variants from the Rec Room client.
Runtime AvatarCatalogDumpMelon dump surfaced item->swatch pairings the
static bundle scan's (slot, name) matcher missed. Kept only the 66 that
map a swatch 1:1 to a single color combination (unambiguous store tile
key); the remaining shared-swatch/multi-color items need a richer variant
model and are deferred. Purely additive.
Scanned all 6365 StreamingAssets/aa bundles for *_Combination
MonoBehaviours, parsed each name (Item_Slot_Colour) plus its
{combinationId},{swatchGuid} pair, and matched to the 882-item catalog
by exact (slot, name). Yields 147 new colored variants beyond the
prior name-prefix pass. Purely additive; the store seeds the new
wardrobe-colored-* tiles on restart.
